Feltes (1894 - 1985)
Bird Bander
Charles H.
Feltes was a prolific bird bander for over 50 years in
the Modesto area. He has the only record for Bohemian
Waxwings ever found in Stanislaus County. He caught and
banded 6 of them in his yard in 1932 that were mixed in
with a huge flock of over a thousand Cedar Waxwings. He
was featured in the April 1964 in Western Bird Bander.
Over his 50 years as a bander, he tallied more than
50,000 banded birds from 126 different species. From the
North American Bird Bander "In 1965 when he learned of
the newly established Point Reyes Bird Observatory, he
shipped to PRBO nearly a ton of much appreciated kitchen
utensils, equipment and dishes from his store in
Modesto."
