January

  • 1/1 - A Stanislaus Audubon field trip to Turlock Lake and Cooperstown Rd. produced Brown Creeper, Varied Thrush, Hutton's Vireo, Bald Eagle, Rough-legged Hawk and Lewis's Woodpecker.
  • 1/2 - The Caswell/Westley CBC added Thayer's Gull, Eurasian Wigeon, American Bittern, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Short-eared Owl, Merlin, Tundra Swans and a Black-throated Gray Warbler.
  • 1/5 - Hooded Mergansers were seen at Dawson Lake
  • 1/6 - Horned Grebes along with Clark's, Western, Eared and Pied-billed were seen at Turlock Lake. Golden-crowned Kinglets and a Phainopepla were seen in the campground and Mountain Bluebirds were seen on Cooperstown Rd.
  • 1/7 - Red-breasted Sapsucker was added on Los Cerritos Rd.
  • 1/16 - 16 Mountain Plovers were found at the inlet to Turlock Lake. Rufous-crowned Sparrows and a Canyon Wren are seen on the LaGrange Trail.
  • 1/22 - A Peregrine Falcon is seen at the Modesto Sewage Ponds by a Tuolumne Audubon field trip. Greater Roadrunner and Hairy Woodpecker are added to the list from Del Puerto Canyon. Three Barrow's Goldeneye are seen in the canal along Davis Rd.
  • 1/26 - A Pacific Golden-Plover is found at the Modesto Sewage Ponds.
  • 1/29 - A 1st year Glaucous-winged Gull is seen at the Modesto Sewage Ponds.

  February

  • 2/7 - Purple Finches are seen at Turlock Lake Campground.
  • 2/12 - The first Cliff Swallows are seen.
  • 2/15 - Five Mew Gulls are seen at the Ceres Sewage Ponds. First N. Rough-winged Swallows seen. A Greater Scaup is seen at the Modesto Sewage Ponds.
  • 2/18 - First Swainson's Hawk of the season.

  March

  • 3/19 - First Western Kingbirds seen along Davis Rd.
  • 3/28 - A Sage Thrasher is found on Davis Rd. and stays through April 2
  • 3/29 - First Bullock's Oriole seen in Del Puerto Canyon.

  April

  • 4/1 - A flock of Whimbrel are seen along Central Ave. in Ceres.
  • 4/2 - First Caspian tern seen at Turlock Lake. A singing Grasshopper Sparrow in Del Puerto Canyon.
  • 4/9 - First Black-headed Grosbeak seen in Del Puerto Canyon along with Costa's Hummingbirds.
  • 4/15 - A San Joaquin Audubon trip found a Hooded Oriole in Del Puerto Canyon. A Stanislaus Audubon trip to Henry Coe Park found Chipping Sparrow, Blue Gray Gnatcatcher, Lawrence's Goldfinch, Wild Turkey, Ash-throated Flycatcher, Sage Sparrow and Hairy Woodpecker.
  • 4/18 - Three Blue-winged Teal are seen in a pond on Davis Rd.

May

  • 5/6 - Black Terns, Blue Grosbeaks and Lazuli Buntings seen on a Stanislaus Audubon trip to the Modesto Sewage Ponds.
  • 5/7 - Cassin's Vireos are seen along Kewin Park.
  • 5/8 - A Willow Flycatcher is seen in Kewin Park along with Western Tanagers and a Western Wood-Pewee.
  • 5/12 - Yellow-breasted Chat and a Stellar's Jay are seen in Del Puerto Canyon.
  • 5/14 - An early morning trip up Del Puerto Canyon produced Western Screech-Owls and a Northern Pygmy-Owl.

  July

  • 7/8 - Wilson's Phalaropes are seen at the Ceres Sewage Ponds. A rare valley floor Rufous-crowned Sparrow is seen at the Modesto Sewage Ponds along with a Bank Swallow.
  • 7/19 - Short-billed Dowitchers seen at the Ceres Sewage Ponds.
  • 7/21 - Red-necked Phalarope, a Ruddy Turnstone and a Solitary Sandpiper are seen at the Modesto Sewage Ponds.
  • 7/22 - A Willet and Snowy Plover are seen at the Modesto Sewage Ponds.

  August

  • 8/7 - 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 4 Willets and several Semipalmated Plovers at the Modesto Sewage Ponds.
  • 8/17 - 3 Bank Swallows at the Modesto Ponds.

September

  • 9/10 - Big migrant day at Kewin Park, Yellow, Wilson's Nashville, Black-throated Gray, Orange-crowned and Townsend's Warblers, 3 vireo species, tanagers, Pacific-slope, Willow and Dusky Flycatchers and a Tennessee Warbler.
  • 9/12 - More migrants at Kewin Park including a 1st fall female Bay-breasted Warbler.
  • 9/17 - On a big day, 2 Northern Pygmy-Owls, Peregrine Falcon, Pine Siskin, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Red-breasted Nuthatch, MacGillivray's and Hermit Warblers, and a Sage Thrasher are seen

October

  • 10/9 - A well-seen American Golden-Plover was recorded at the Modesto Sewage Ponds.
  • 10/29 - First returning Ferruginous Hawks on Los Cerritos rd.

November

  • 11/17 - Thayer's Gull at the Modesto Sewage Ponds.
  • 11/21 - A Long-tailed Duck is found at the Modesto Sewage Pond, which stays til the end of the year.
  • 11/30 - The pale interior form of Sage Sparrow is found on Crabtree Rd.

December

  • 12/01 - Mountain Bluebirds and Purple Finches are seen in Del Puerto Canyon.
  • 12/17 - A White-throated Sparrow is seen at the corner of Hwy 132 and Dakota Ave, west of Modesto. A Brant is seen just north of the SJRNWR on Beckwith Rd.
  • 12/18 - A basic plumage 1st year male Rose-breasted Grosbeak is found in a backyard in Modesto.
  • 12/19 - A wintering Grasshopper Sparrow is found along Crabtree Rd.
  • 12/20 - A male Lark Bunting is found on Hwy 132 east of Crabtree.
  • 12/21 - A pair of Townsend's Solitaires is found around mile 20 in Del Puerto Canyon. They are seen through the end of the year.
  • 12/30 - A Winter Wren is seen at the Turlock Lake campground and another pale form Sage Sparrow on Davis Rd. during the LaGrange/Waterford CBC.
