CALIFORNIA TOWHEE NESTING INFORMATION (From birdsoftheworld.org)
Nests - Great variety of sites in California—many nests at “moderate height”, but others may be low to the ground or more than 11 m up. Locations include: tree, sub-tree, shrub, vine, rarely on ground, sometimes in artificial structure in yard; about 1 m from ground in elder and even in grass.
Eggs - Subelliptical to long subelliptical, pale bluish white or creamy white. Sparsely spotted or blotched with very dark brown, almost black or purplish-black markings, mostly at larger end of egg; sometimes spots connected with hairlike lines. Clutch size 2 to 5 eggs.
Incubation - 11 to 12 days by female only.
Fledging - Young are altricial leaving nest at 10 to 11 days old.
