The mission of the Stanislaus Audubon Society is to help people appreciate and enjoy wild birds; to survey and document wild bird populations; and to promote the conservation of wild birds and their habitats for future generations through birding, education, conservation, and community partnerships.
If you wish to support our mission, please consider donating to Stanislaus Society. Our chapter is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization. All of our events are free to the public. Membership to our chapter goes through National Audubon Society, which gives us a modest stipend for our budget annually. We do not have a chapter-only membership option. We rely upon other donations to cover our ongoing expenses.
Our chapter offers one or two field trips monthly throughout the year , and we invite participants of all skill levels. Participants need not be members of our chapter. We also provide the public with eight to ten Zoom presentations per year of educational and/or entertainment value. We also engage in conservation advocacy, which includes writing letters of support on local and state environmental issues.
This list will demonstrate how our chapter uses our existing funds:
Tabling Events – We provide a booth at Salmon Festival, Wild Planet Days, Science Day at Stan State, and other public venues. We pay for “The Birding Sites of Stanislaus and Merced Counties” booklets, hats, and T-shirts, which are provided to the public for their donations. We also periodically replenish equipment and posters for the booth. Also, we pay for and replace free hand-outs at these events.
Attendance at Audubon California Chapter Assembly meetings.
Zoom Audubon Programs – We pay each presenter a $100 honorarium for presenting the programs, which are archived onto our website page.
Scholarship – We offer the $1,000 Grayson Scholarship yearly for a Stan State candidate in the biological sciences.
Newsletter – We partner with Yokuts Group of the Sierra Club on printing and mailing six issues of Valley
Habitat every two months, for an approximate cost of $930 yearly.
Bird Nest Boxes – We have installed songbird nest boxes at four locations in our county - one site on private ranchland, one at a national wildlife refuge, and two at colleges. Many of these boxes are in need of repair or replacement, and we would like to expand our program to include nest boxes for Barn Owls and other bird species.
Operational Expenses – We have to pay ongoing fees for insurance, state fees, our website domain, Zoom subscription, and rental of postal box.
